UiIn a major boost for Governor Charles Soludo’s re-election bid, over 3,000 members of the late Senator Ifeanyi Uba’s political structures have officially defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), declaring their full support for the governor’s second term.
The groups include Afa Igbo Efuna, Ifeanyi Uba Solidarity Movement (IUSM), Uba Disciples, Young Progressive Party (YPP), Ifeanyi Uba Foundation, and the Uba Nation Media Centre. Their defection was formalized during a ceremony held at the International Convention Centre, Awka, the Anambra State capital, and attended by top government officials and political stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Emma Ezike of IUSM noted, "We all know the late Senator Ifeanyi Uba had a vision for a better Anambra, but since he is no more, we, members of IUSM, have resolved to align with a political family that shares our progressive ideals. Even before the primary election, we concluded that supporting Governor Soludo and joining APGA was the right step forward."
Also speaking, Hon. James Oguejiofor, Coordinator of Afa Igbo Efuna, shared his personal experience after inspecting key projects executed by Governor Soludo across the state.
"Before the inspection, I was unaware of the magnitude of work being done. I visited Okpoko, Ekwulobia, the Fun City, the New Government House, and several other locations. What I saw impressed me deeply," he said.
"As someone from Oraifite, witnessing road construction in our area sealed my decision to support Soludo. I have since mobilized my people to do the same. I also call on stakeholders in the entertainment industry, especially Nollywood, to join this movement to return Soludo to Awka Government House in the upcoming November election."
In response, Governor Soludo welcomed the decampees and reflected on his personal relationship with the late Senator Ifeanyi Uba.
"APGA remains Nigeria’s foremost progressive political party since its establishment in 2002. I had a cordial relationship with the late Senator Uba and vividly recall our last meeting. I am truly honored to receive his political family into APGA."
The defection marks a significant shift in the Anambra political landscape and is expected to strengthen APGA’s base ahead of the November 2025 gubernatorial election.
