A final-year student of Kwara State College of Education, Lawal Hafsoh Yetunde, has been tragically murdered for ritual purposes in Ilorin after being lured by an Islamic cleric, Abdulrahman Mohad Ballo, whom she met on Facebook.
The suspect, reportedly the son of a prominent Muslim cleric in the Isalekoto community, is currently in police custody at the Kwara State Police Command Headquarters.
According to reports, Hafsoh was attending a naming ceremony when she received a phone call from a friend. She stepped away from her meal to answer the call and never returned. A frantic search by her family and friends yielded no immediate results.
Upon his arrest, the suspect initially denied any knowledge of Hafsoh’s whereabouts. However, during a search of his residence, he confessed that she had visited him but allegedly died from an asthma attack.
Further investigation uncovered a horrifying scene—Hafsoh’s dismembered body was found hidden in a bowl, along with tools believed to have been used in the act.
Authorities believe the suspect met Hafsoh on Facebook, obtained her phone number, and lured her to his residence.
The Kwara State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the case. Confirming the incident, the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, stated: “The command is aware of the gruesome killing of one Miss Yetunde H. Lawal. On 11/02/2025, at about 18:00 hours, a case of a missing person was reported at C Division, Oja-Oba, by her father, Mr. Ibrahim A. Lawal. Immediately, police detectives swung into action, tracked her number, and arrested a suspect. The case was transferred yesterday to the SCID for a thorough investigation.
